Emergency Flood Relief for Paoyhan, 2026
Seeking donations for disaster relief from floods devastating Paoyhan
As of April 1, 2026, the Shipibo community of Paoyhan is once again facing severe flooding following the overflow of the Ucayali River.
Homes are submerged, families are evacuating to higher ground, and many have lost nearly all of their food crops and basic supplies.
Crops are destroyed, increasing food insecurity.
Banana, yuca, corn, sweet potato, squash, and other essential foods have been destroyed. With farms underwater and supply access limited, families—especially children—are left without reliable sources of food. At the same time, waterborne illnesses are increasing, and access to medicine is extremely limited.
As one community member shared:
“Our homes are in water and many residents have gone in search of higher ground… many households are left without food… many lost their crops due to the flooding.”
This crisis is compounded by a recent leadership transition in the community, which has made coordinated response efforts more difficult. Despite these challenges, the community is organizing and reaching out for support.
